Similar to a car, for your protection, the instant you have insurable interest in your trailer, we recommend that you insure it. However, unlike a car, insuring your trailer is not a mandatory state requirement! It is your option. You need to weigh the risks of what is at stake, how much you could potentially lose, versus the premium & protection options.
Collision? Liability? Comprehensive? Theft? Other? Of course you should have liability protection in place! Whether you want to cover the trailer itself for theft, collision, fire, etc is another matter and can vary depending on the circumstances.
(Just a Fender Bender? A Total loss? Being sued? Wake up and it's been stolen?)
GOOD NEWS!
Even if you secure a better, broader protection package, Travel Trailer insurance is NOT expensive! And, you "may" already have some limited coverage in place.
(Do you?)
STEP #1
Know what you currently have, ... OR more importantly, "What you do not have!"
Be sure to review your Home, (or Renters) & Auto insurance policies to see how they may, (or may not), be able to extend limited coverage to your trailer. Be careful, some Home and Autos policies may exclude certain trailer types! We recommend Step #2 below.
STEP #2
Consider a specialized, focused insurance package that caters to the Travel Trailer owner and several of their unique risks and situations.
Consider the "BBTTPP"
(The Better, Broader, Travel Trailer Protection Package!)
See Coverage Examples below.
